The system of identifying individuals through «fingerprints» was invented in Argentina by Juan Vucetich. The invention was developed and patented in Argentina, where it was used for the first time to solve a crime. This led to the current worldwide system used to study and examine fingerprints. Fingerprint identification, known as «dactyloscopy», or palm print identification, is the process of comparing two instances of friction ridge skin impressions (see Minutiae), from human fingers.
